Mine Action Workshops - 13 &14 June @2024 Killinochchi & Colombo - Sri Lanka
In supporting Sri Lanka with implementing its completion strategy, GICHD recently facilitated three workshops:
Completion survey stock-taking, Kilinochchi, Northern Sri Lanka: The completion survey and the Information Management system that supports it have provided clarity on the extent of previously unknown contamination. This will allow Sri Lanka to plan for the future with more certainty.
National Mine Action Standards (NMAS) workshop and funding, Kilinochchi, Northern Sri Lanka: this collaborative work resulted in three reviewed NMAS (Land Release, Non-Technical Survey and Quality Management), which will result in more consistent, efficient and effective operations.
Completion scenario workshop, Colombo: organized with the Sri Lankan National Mine Action Centre (NMAC) and operators in Colombo provided the basis for a resource mobilization strategy to be developed later in 2024. Big outcomes include greater clarity on funding scenarios, remaining contamination and the impact on Sri Lanka’s completion timeline.
We would like to thank Auswärtiges Amt and U.S Department of State Bureau of Political-Military Affairs (PM/WRA) for supporting these activities. We’re also grateful to all participants including DASH, SHARP, MAG (Mine Advisory Group), The HALO Trust & Sri Lankan Army -HDU , and the close collaboration with NMAC.
